Control your device through your Notification Center with NCControl

Have you ever thought to yourself, “I wish there was a jailbreak tweak that allowed me to control my device through my Notification Center?” Well if you happen to fall into that unique category, your wish has just been granted.
Introducing NCControl by Ron Melkhior. The tweak enables you to access your device while your Notification Center’s drop down menu is active…
Installing NCControl makes your Notification Center’s background completely transparent. And not only can you see through the drop-down window, but you can touch through it as well.
From what I’ve seen so far, NCControl only works when you’re in an application (it doesn’t work at the Home Screen). And if you’re like me and have multiple widgets in your Notification Center, the tweak won’t do you much good. Text and images [obviously] make it impossible to see or do anything.
But for those of you with empty Notification Centers, NCControl can provide a heads-up display of sorts as you browse through Safari and other applications. If you’re interested, you can find the tweak in Cydia, in the BigBoss repo, for free.

WallpaperLog turns your iOS wallpaper into an active console log

Nerds everywhere rejoice! Filippo Bigarella, the jailbreak developer behind Springtomize 2and other popular tweaks, has just submitted a new package to Cydia called WallpaperLog.
The new tweak turns your device’s wallpaper into an active console log, giving you a glimpse into some of the things that happen behind the scenes in iOS…
Even though you can’t see it, thousands of lines of code are constantly executing in iOS underneath its pretty user interface. WallpaperLog will allow you to see a small portion of that code — mostly low level events — in a live scrolling wallpaper.
We’re not sure how it works exactly, but the folks over at OSXDaily believe that the tweak actively scrolls through the /private/var/log/system.log file.
WallpaperLog certainly isn’t a high-profile, must-have tweak. But we have to admit it looks pretty cool. Filippo says it will be free, and should be available in Cydia shortly. We’ll let you know once it goes live.

Add a mirror to Notification Center with ‘MirrorWidget’

MirrorWidget is a jailbreak tweak that places a mirror in iOS 5′s Notification Center. The “mirror” is just an image from either the front or rear facing camera; you can switch between the two, and you have the ability to snap a photo in the process.
Making sure you look dapper has never been easier. Check out our video walkthrough straight ahead…
A double tap on the widget will switch between your front and rear facing cameras, while a single tap will snap a photo for lasting memories.
MirrorWidget can be had for free on Cydia’s ModMyi repo for jailbroken iDevices. You must be running iOS 5, and I’m assuming this works with dual camera devices only like the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, and iPad 2.

Fix Errors While Typing with this Jailbreak Tweak!!

Typing on iOS has always been a joy, but fixing mistakes is a little bit more aggravating. We have a new Cydia tweak that lets you fix mistakes a lot easier while typing. It’s call SwipeShiftCaret and it’s very simple and easy to use.
We all know the current way to fix errors or go to a certain spot in a line of text as pictured above, and it’s terrible to deal with sometimes. With SwipeShiftCaret, you can swipe left or right in a text area and you will move characters according to how you swiped. This is much more efficient than trying to go to a mistake and use the magnifying glass to go to a spot in the text field and fix it.
There isn’t too much to say about this tweak except the fact that it’s just purely genius. It makes everything a lot easier and smoother while texting a friend or typing out email from your iDevice. The best part about this tweak is that it’s free on the BigBoss Repo. Since this is a jailbreak tweak, you’ll need to perform an untethered jailbreak.

Change Text And Hide Options On Lockscreen With SlideToMod (Jailbreak Tweak)

There are many tweaks out there that let you change your “Slide to unlock” text. They don’t have any other options and usually require some sort of restart action to apply the changes. But with SlideToMod, you can change your “Slide to unlock” text and much more and it applies immediately!

Not only do you get the option to put a custom slide to unlock text, you can also choose to have the current date or time displayed. There is also an option to have nothing there at all. There’s a few more things you can do with this tweak that you can’t do with others.

You can hide many things that are shown on your lockscreen. One of those is actually hiding the slider to get into your device. I wouldn’t advise the use of this without having another tweak installed or having an Activator event allowing you to get back into your device. Without that, you will be stuck with an expensive paper weight waiting for a restore if you don’t know much about the system files on these devices.
Alternatively, there are more options you can hide! If you’re on an iPad, you can hide the slide show button that is always on the screen beside the slider. This would be good if you don’t want friends or children seeing a slideshow of all your photos. If you have an iPhone or iPod touch, you can hide the camera icon that pops up when you double tap the home button while on the lockscreen. This was a new feature introduced when iOS 5 was released. And lastly, you have the option to hide the music controls on your lockscreen as well!

This tweak has many functions and it’s even free in Cydia. Just search for “SlideToMod”. Of course you’ll need to be jailbroken to get this tweak.

Add Notification Center On Your Lockscreen With Bulletin (Jailbreak Tweak)

Every since iOS 5 came out, the Notification Center was the best integration iOS has seen in a long time. But there was a problem, you couldn’t view the Notification Center within the lockscreen. Now you can with this amazing Cydia tweak called Bulletin! It also has a few features for the original Notification Center as well.

Notification Center LockScreen

This is a tweak I think we all have been waiting for every since iOS 5 was jailbroken. But the only way to get the Notification Center on your lockscreen was with IntelliscreenX, and that’s a $10 Cydia tweak. Bulletin is by far going down in the books as one of the best Cydia tweaks out there for iOS 5. As soon as you get this tweak, you will be amazed. It runs fluently on your iDevice with no lag at all.

There are a few things that come with this tweak as well. When you go into settings to see all of the toggles, you’ll see some options for transparency. This means your Notification Center will be “see through” and it adds a very nice effect to your device. Another thing that this tweak allows you to do is close notifications as soon as they pop up. This is great because there is no real way to get notifications out of the way without having to wait 2-3 seconds for it to go away. With that option enable, all you do is tap the little “x” and the notification goes away.

These are pretty much all of the major incredible things that Bulletin can do! With this tweak being just $0.99 in Cydia, it’s completely  worth it! All you need to do is to jailbreak your iOS device.

AT&T Introduces New LTE Mico-SIMs

We have received many different suggestions and rumors regarding the upcoming iPad 3 launch including Retina Display, LTE, and quad-core processor, however this may be another suggestion for LTE integration in the next generation iPad. AT&T has begun replacing the existing micro-SIMs with a new SIM card that is capable of connecting to its LTE network. In addition to the photo of the new micro-SIM card, a leaked memo from AT&T describes that they are to scrap and discard the old SIMs and use these new ones.

With the history of Apple and AT&T working together, this may seem to be a good hint that a partnership between Apple and AT&T may exist to offer customers LTE connection in the upcoming iPad 3. We have seen leaked information from iBoot showing LTE integration in the rumored iPad 3 or iPad 2S.

What do you think will be in the once a year unveiled third-generation iPad? Share with us your predictions in the comments below.

New SIM Interposer TPSIN Claims To Unlock A Variety Of Basebands For iPhone 4S And iPhone 4

Awhile back the iPhone Dev-Team started showing progress on an updated version of UltraSn0w that could unlock new basebands for the iPhone 4S. Unfortunately, we have heard of no new developments for this software unlock solution lately and I think it is safe to say it was put in the back burners for the time being.
For those of you still waiting for an unlocking solution for the iPhone 4S you will be glad to know it is being reported by RedmondPie that a new SIM Interposer (similar to the GEVEY SIM card) is being developed by a development team that goes by the name of ChinaSn0w. This new SIM Interposer is dubbed TSPIN Unlock and is apparently able to unlock the iPhone 4S on the 1.0.11, 1.01.13 and 1.0.14 basebands (there is also support for numerous iPhone 4 basebands).

You can take a look art the complete features of the TPSIN unlocking solution below…

  • No requirement for a jailbreak, insert and go!
  • *No need to dial 112 (after the first time initialization)
  • Supports 3G, EDGE, MMS, Facetime
  • Supports iPhone 4S baseband 1.0.11, 1.0.13 and 1.0.14.
  • Supports iPhone 4 baseband 1.59.00, 2.10.04, 3.10.01, 4.10.01 but NOT 4.11.08
  • No hardware alteration or modification required – will not affect your warranty
  • Robust and sturdy steel custom SIM tray
  • Unlock works on all world networks.
  • Uses high performance original F981 chip for ultra-low voltage operation
Those who are interested can currently pre-order the TPSIN unlocking solution for a price of $84.95, with a shipping date set at the end of February. Now although you can pre-order this new unlocking solution we recommend holding off until it is officially released and there are user reviews to verify that this is not a scam.

SARA- Siri Clone for A4 Devices

When Siri was first released for the iPhone 4S it left many people wondering if Apple would release Siri for older generation iOS devices. Now, a few months later it has become obvious that Apple will not be releasing Siri for older generation iOS devices and thus it is up to the Jailbreaking community to develop a suitable alternative.

Earlier today we told you about a Siri clone dubbed SARA that has been claimed to be one of the best and most innovative Siri clones to date. It is not only an accurate, but extends Siri’s default functionality dramatically. If you are interested in getting Siri on your:
  • iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPhone 2G
  • iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 2G
  • iPad 2G, iPad 1G
Then you will be glad to know that in this how to guide from iJailbreak.com you will learn how to install the SARA tweak through Cydia and even install the SARA Cydia tweak manually in case you have troubles downloading the tweak (due to server restraints).

Note: The SARA Cydia tweak does not natively integrate with your iOS device at this time (it is an application that must be launched from your SpringBoard). Additionally, for all of you wondering, the SARA Cydia tweak is based on Spire and uses a 3rd party server for most requests. This means that there is a possibility your personal information sent through Siri could be being logged (even though the author notes no information will ever be logged). Use SARA at your own risk.

How To Install SARA Through Cydia

Step 1) – The first thing you will need to do is Jailbreak your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad running the iOS 5.0 or iOS 5.0.1 firmware

Step 2) - Next you will launch Cydia, go into the Manage Tab, then the Sources Section, click the Edit button and then the Add button. From here you will need to add the following source:

Step 3) – When the source has been added into your repository list, click on it and you will see three packages. Please install the package that corresponds to the iOS device you are trying to install SARA to.

Note: The Console package is only for submitting error reports to the developer of SARA.

Step 4) – Once you have installed SARA to your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad you will notice a SARA icon on your SpringBoard (homescreen).

Manually Install SARA Siri Clone

Prerequisite: You must have the afc2add Cydia package installed on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad before continuing the steps to manually install the SARA Cydia tweak.

Step 1) – Like always for installing any sort of 3rd party software the first thing you will need to do is Jailbreak your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad running the iOS 5.0 or iOS 5.0.1 firmware.

Step 2) - Next you will need to download a file-system editor program for your Windows or Mac OS X computer. We recommend a program called iExplorer, which can be downloaded by clicking here. The last file you will need to download is the SARA.deb 0.3 file. This can be downloaded by clicking here.

Step 3) – With the required files downloaded you will need to launch your file-system editor program and go to the following directory:

Note: When you get to the Media folder you may not see a Cydia folder. If this is the case for you then you will need to create a folder dubbed Cydia and then another folder inside the Cydia folder dubbed AutoInstall.

Step 4) – When you are in the directory shown above you will need to drop the SARA.deb file you downloaded earlier into the AutoInstall folder.

Step 5) – When the file has finished transferring you will simply need to reboot your iOS device twice and then you should notice a SARA icon on your SpringBoard (homescreen).

Congratulations you have just gotten Siri on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad!

iOS 5.0.1 Bug Allows Anyone To Access Contacts And Make Calls Even If Protected By A Passcode

Canadian tech blogger Ade Barkah has discovered a new security loophole in iOS 5.0.1 that make easy to anyone to make call out even with security enabled. The loophole has been confirmed to work on iPhone 4 & iPhone 4S. Barkah details the bugs on his official blog.

We’re able to trick Voice Control to enumerate through the private address book and make live FaceTime video calls on a locked iPhone 4, even with Voice Dial specifically disabled in the settings.
Barkah tested his iPhone he set to the highest security settings and with the passcode enabled and turned off the voice control. He could make a call from emergency page through sending the commands in the voice control without typing his password. Actual voice calls didn’t go through but he could make FaceTime call and look through all contacts and their pictures.
Now Voice Control leaks that I have two numbers for Lisa Klein: her “mobile” and another number at the “love shack“. Had this been my jealous girlfriend probing my locked phone, I would’ve been totally busted! Remember, we’re getting all this info from a locked phone with Voice Dial explicitly disabled. So far we’ve only enumerated through the Contacts. Can we actually complete a call from the locked phone? With FaceTime, the answer is yes! Again starting from the Emergency Call screen, this time I say, “FaceTime”.
For iPhone 4S users, this will work only if Siri is turned off, because that’s when the iPhone 4S will begin using voice control.

However, iPhone 3GS users are safe from this problem since older devices doesn’t have front camera for FaceTime calls. Someone could still sniff through your contacts, though.

This is a very big problem. Any one now can easily snoop through your contacts and call them. Hopefully, Apple will address this bug in iOS 5.0.1.

We do expect iOS 5.0.2 in few weeks or even days, who knows! iOS 5.1 is rumored to come out on March 9th. I personally don’t think that Apple would wait for that bug for a month!

iOS 5.1 Rolling Out On March 9th, Report Claims!

Rumor says Apple will release iOS 5.1 this March; we’ve been waiting for a long time for the software to release, it will be available for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod Touch 3G/4G and iPad 2. Of course we have seen beta versions but non of them are public release.

YourDailyMac reported that they found profiles intended for operations in France, Finland, Greece, Japan and Sweden.

We today discovered that Apple published eleven new profiles for various iPhone-operators. These files are compatible with iOS 5.1 and are set for release on March 9. This could indicate that iOS 5.1 will be released around that date, is will be available for the following devices; iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod Touch 3G/4G, iPad, and iPad 2.

Apple has to update the iPhone’s operator profile with each new build of iOS so that the network connection will work properly.

They also discovered the exact release date, which will be on Friday, 9th of March. So the iPad 3 is expected to come out at the same date or earlier so that it will have the iOS 5.1
Stay tuned!

ColoredKnob Updated With 10 New Colors For Slide-To-Unlock Button (Jailbreak Tweak)

Couple of days back, we’ve covered a post about a tweak called ColoredKnob which changes the color of “Slide to Unlock” knob. Many of our users, as seen in the comments, liked the tweak and used it. However, the tweak was supporting only three colors, green, red and the original grey.

That’s why the developer of ColoredKnob updated the tweak. The new version of ColoredKnob brings 10 new colors for the Slide to Unlock buttons.

The tweak is perfect and easy since it doesn’t require Winterboard or any kind of theming. All you have to do is to install it and then select your required color.

Not only 10 new colors added to the updated tweak, but also brought a new shape to replace the Slide to Unlock nub. The one used in the screenshot above is a shape called “Lock” in the tweak, it’s awesome!

You can get ColoredKnob from Cydia under BigBoss repository for FREE. All you need to do is to jailbreak your iOS device.
You can use our guide posted here to jailbreak all A4 devices on iOS 5.0.1 and our guide posted here for A5 devices, i.e. the iPhone 4S and iPad 2.

6 Hidden Duplicate iPad Split Keyboard Buttons Revealed

Apple, pampering its users as always, has added 6 hidden duplicate iPad split keyboard buttons invisible to the naked eye, but allows you to reach over in the gab to grab a key from the opposite side without actually having to use your opposite hand.

You can comfortably write a message holding your tablet with both hands with your thumbs in vertical position. These hidden buttons were discovered by Finer Things’ David Chartier. This addition to the split keyboard prevent mis-touches and easy reach.

You can activate the split keyboard by dragging it apart with two fingers or by tapping and holding the keyboard button at the bottom and choosing ‘split keyboard’.

This shows how much Apple pays attention to detail and its users satisfaction.

Apple To Unveil iPhone 5 During WWDC 2012 (REPORT)

Rumor has it Apple will uncover the iPhone 5 during the WWDC conference this year. The Commercial Times quoting an analyst of Daiwa Securities says that we will see a revamped “glass to glass touch panel” handset from Apple this summer.

In case you are not aware,it is Apple’s tradition to announce its new handsets during WWDC (The World Wide Developers Conference) which takes place in mid-June. However, last year, the fruit company broke that tradition last year with the iPhone 4S released in October. If that rumor is true, that would mean a new handset release only 10 months from the last iPhone release. As strange as that might seem, we do know Apple had a working iPhone 5 since the summer of last year.

We heard pervious rumors suggesting the iPhone 5 will feature A6 Quad-core processor and redesigned body and LTE compatibility.

iPad 3 Photos Leaked Show A6 Processor, Wi-Fi, Global LTE Options

A reliable source provided BGR with some leaked images and screenshots showing details about Apple’s next-generation iPad, known as the iPad 3. THe photos shown an output from an iPad 3 that uses a development tool called iBoot. From these leaked photos, BGR could infer some information about the iPad 3.

The images contain two model numbers J1 and J2 reported by DigiTimes and 9to5mac few weeks ago. The two model numbers are not different devices. Indeed, they’re just a single iPad available in two versions, Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi + GSM/CDMA/LTE for all carriers.

Moreover, these are the first leaked images confirming which processor Apple will be using in the iPad 3; A6 processor with model number S5L8945X.
Last and not least, the iPad 3 A6 processor will be quad-core processor making it the fastest tablet and iOS devices ever.

i4Siri: a promising 3rd party Siri server

Ever since the possibility of a Siri Proxy server was first unveiled, it’s been all the rage. The promise of being able to run Siri on older devices? Count me and about a million other people in.

Now you can hardly look around without seeing some blurb about a 3rd party Siri server, and although security (or lack thereof) is still a big concern, it’s apparently not concerning enough to keep the masses of pre-iPhone 4S owners away.
Andrew Sheridan, one of the primary folks behind the i4Siri project reached out to IDB about a month ago asking to try his Siri server.

To accomplish this feat, i4Siri uses Spire — chpwn’s Siri jailbreak tweak that we covered in-depth a while back.
Once installed, and a special certificate is installed, you can begin using the i4Siri server. The folks behind the project have implemented Cleverbot into i4Siri, which generates a response to every inquiry, regardless if Siri would have normally responded to it or not.

One thing to keep in mind about i4Siri is that it’s not your traditional iPhone 4S stock Siri implementation. For example, you can’t ask it where the nearest Italian restaurant is, and expect a relevant response. The same goes with setting alarm clocks and the like.

You can, however, use Siri jailbreak tweaks like MyAssistant, AssistantExtensions, and various others. That alone makes using i4Siri worth it, and adds much “replayability” to this sort of Siri implementation.

Since the server is still in beta, IDB found that 1 out of every 3 requests resulted in a failure message from Siri. That’s a little worrisome to be honest, because what happens when it goes out of beta and many more people are using the service? Siri’s popularity can not be underestimated, and even the greatest of planning can fall well short of expectations.

If the team behind i4Siri can pull off a miracle and make their server stable for the masses, then i4Siri is definitely worth checking out when it exists beta. Whether or not they can accomplish this is yet to be seen. Keep your eyes peeled for more info. Again, the server is not yet available publicly, but more info should be divulged soon.

Waze 3.1 - Hands-Free Traffic Reporting

Israeli startup Waze has released an update for its iOS GPS navigation app, adding hands-free crowd sourcing to its arsenal.

There are already plenty of GPS navigation apps on the App Store with TomTom being one of our favorites, but Waze is a little bit different in that it uses crowd sourcing as a means of measuring traffic congestion and accidents. The reliance on humans reporting such issues is both its strong and its weak point.
While the use of real people to build a map of what is really going on should make for a more accurate navigational experience, it also means that the service just plain fails to work if people don’t take the time to check in. This latest update should help alleviate that particular issue…

It could be argued that Siri would be the best way to add hands-free activation to Waze, but with Apple dragging its heals in the API stakes, the company has decided to take matters into its own hands by using the iPhone’s proximity sensor as a trigger.

As the video shows, Waze now activates the traffic reporting system as soon as a hand is waved in front of the handset. It’s an ingenious way of handling an issue that shouldn’t exist, with the added benefit of looking super cool when being used.

The hand gesture obviously adds an element of safety, with there being no reason for the driver to need to touch the screen while the vehicle is in motion – a real plus for those who use GPS a lot when out and about.
Let us know if you use Waze and whether you find the implementation working well. The update is live in the App Store now.

AT&T throttles customers who use 2GB of data but takes on new 3GB capped-users

AT&T has had a tumultuous relationship with its own customers over the last few years, with issues stemming from its lack of network capacity being exacerbated by the hugely popular iPhone being an exclusive handset to the carrier.

Data has tended to be one of the biggest sticking points for many, the lack of ability to make a phone call not withstanding. The recent change of AT&T’s data plans has only managed to muddy the waters somewhat, and now things are getting even more confusing with the news that the carrier is throttling users who are on the old unlimited data plan and use 2GB of data per month.

The obvious question now is simple: why is AT&T throttling users who use 2GB of data but continues to accept new users on the updated 3GB limit plan? No, we don’t know either…
The whole talking point stems from a blog post by John Cozen who found himself having his data connection throttled by AT&T for using 2.1GB of data on his grandfathered unlimited plan. With AT&T claiming he sat in the top 5% of data hogs, he published an email conversation he had with the carrier which many will find interesting.
“To give you a baseline – the average data use across the country by the top 5% of AT&T smartphone customers was 2GB per month, effective August 2011. The amount of data usage of our top 5% of heaviest users varies from month-to-month and by market, based on the usage of others and the ever-increasing demand for mobile broadband services. To rank among the top 5%, you must use an extraordinary amount of data in a single billing period.”
The question now has to be all about that new 3GB data plan that AT&T is touting. If 2GB of usage gets you throttled, what’s going on with the new plan that supposedly offers another 50% of data to play with?

Apple employee says iPad 3 screen is “truly amazing”

Earlier today we heard a report from AllThingsD claiming that Apple’s anticipated iPad 3 announcement is just a few weeks away. The site believes that we could see Apple unveil its next-generation tablet as early as the first week in March.

Now the New York Times is weighing in on the slate, claiming that it has also learned details about the next iPad. And according to its sources, the tablet’s [anticipated] Retina display looks “truly amazing…”
From the NYT:
“An Apple employee said that the version of the new iPad that is being tested inside the company is “essentially the same size and shape as the iPad 2,” with an improved and “truly amazing” screen. The tablet will include a faster processor, said the employee, who did not want to be identified because Apple is not fond of leaks.”
This information lines up with several previous rumors we’ve heard regarding the next-generation iPad’s upgraded components. It also lends some credibility to all of the gossip we’ve heard about its appearance. There have been a number of reports, and recent component leaks, suggesting that the iPad 3 will look extremely similar to its predecessor.

On top of a Retina display and faster processor, Apple’s next tablet is also rumored to feature high resolution cameras, Siri support, and 4G LTE technology.

‘WeKillBackground Pro’

WeeKillBackground Pro is a very robust app management tweak that allows you to kill all backgrounded apps in one fell swoop.

Residing in iOS 5′s Notification Center, WeeKillBackground Pro is always at your fingertips when you want to quickly kill all of your running and/or backgrounded apps.

But that’s not all, this tweak lives up to its “pro” designation by featuring a generous helping of options along with its basic settings.

WeeKillBackground Pro features customization options for the look and feel of the Notification Center widget, along with font options to change the wording, text size, and text color.
There’s also a dedicated section made solely for excluding certain apps from being killed, and a Extras section to do things like automatic killing once Notification Center is closed.
At $0.99 on Cydia’s BigBoss repo, WeeKillBackground Pro is a modestly priced solution with a ton of options, which will surely please all but the toughest critics.

How to Add Animated Boot Logos to iOS 5

Animated Boot logos can once again be acquired on the latest iOS jailbreaks using a tool from developer iH8sn0w simply called animate fix.

For example, if you’re an iPhone 4S jailbreaker, all you have to do is download and install the animate fix package, select animated logo from the BootLogo settings panel, and restart your device.

This is a great way to add even more customization to your iDevice, as you can probably gauge from the screenshots and video…

Once animate fix is installed on your device, you can choose from over 800+ boot logos available in Cydia by going to Sections > Addons (BootLogo).

Conveniently, animated logos can also be previewed right from the Settings app, so there’s no need to reboot every time you want to see what your animate logo will look like in action.

QuickTweet: Compose Tweets Directly from Notification Center

There are already tons of different ways you can invoke the Twitter panel in iOS 5, and this is just one of the latest methods for doing so.

QuickTweet is a Notification Center shortcut for iOS 5 that places a quick link to the compose tweet function in the bottom left-hand corner. This could be the perfect companion to IntelliScreenX’s built-in Messages+ SMS shortcut, because it’s situated directly across from it…

QuickTweet features no settings or options to configure, just install it, and you will notice the shortcut in the bottom left-hand corner of Notification Center.

It’s a free download on Cydia’s BigBoss repo for jailbroken iOS 5 devices.

Corona Updated to Bring Support for iPhone 4S on iOS 5.0

It’s a big day for Corona. After being updated this morning to fix the DRM issues in iBooks, Saurik just tweeted that the untether has been updated yet again, this time to resolve problems with the iPhone 4S running iOS 5.
If you’re having problems with iBooks on your jailbroken device, you can install Corona directly from Cydia. If you’ve already installed Corona, you can simply update it via Cydia and you should be good to go.

RingerX VIP: Control Ringer and Vibrate Behavior for Calls and Messages

Don’t you just hate it when you miss an important call because you forgot to turn your iPhone’s mute switch off? Or what about that one annoying person that always calls at 3 in the morning? Wouldn’t it be nice if you could forever silence their calls?

With RingerX VIP, all of these scenarios feature easy solutions.

This is a jailbreak tweak for those who require fine grained control over how various contacts are treated whenever they call you or message you…

RingerX VIP allows you to customize each individual contact with specific ringtone and vibrate settings for both SMS messages and phone calls. Options like always silent, ignore mute, custom volumes, and always vibrate permeate the tweak’s settings. There’s even an option to customize the ringtone of a contact when you’ve set it to ignore the mute switch.

To make things easy, there’s a built in feature that allows you to toggle RingerX VIP off on an individual basis, along with a full fledged global kill switch in the Settings app.

For those of you who are interested in temporary mute options, those too can be enabled using a simple Activator action. The custom mute can range anywhere from 5 minutes to 23 hours and 55 minutes. The temporary mute is perfect for meetings, or movies; I think 23 hours is long enough even for a rerun of Titanic don’t you think?

To top everything off, the developer went above and beyond to create some comprehensive documentation for the tweak; not since CallBar (and yes RingerX VIP works with CallBar) have we seen such in-depth help guides.

RingerX VIP will be available in Cydia’s BigBoss repo in just a few days for $1.99. In the meantime, why not share some of the ways this tweak would be beneficial to you?

After Being Rejected by Apple, Developers Turn to Cydia

You might remember a few weeks ago when we told you about Tribute Calendar, an application that paid tribute to Steve Jobs in the form of a calendar application that had been rejected by Apple.

The developers of the app didn’t want to take “no” for an answer and did exactly what more developers should do: they turned to Cydia to release their app without the need of Apple’s benediction…

Developers from Nushka Labs note on their blog:

We got rejection from Apple Team and in the email Apple Review Team have said – “However, We have decided to honor his life in other ways and we are not accepting these types of apps.”
We are really happy (& proud) to announce that ‘Tribute Calendar’ is launched with Cydia Store.
We have kept our promise to release the App free (as well Ad Free), it will remain Free for lifetime.

The app is available for free from the MMI repo. If you don’t have a jailbroken iPhone, the developers will distribute the app free of charge to 25 lucky peeps as an ad-hoc app. Simply email them at nuskhalabs@gmail.com for more details.

Smartphone Makers Reportedly Delaying Handsets to Avoid iPhone 4S Competition

The iPhone 4S is selling so well that Digitimes believes the competition is running scared. So much so that the likes of HTC, Samsung, Nokia and LG apparently delaying the release of new handsets until the iPhone 4S sales have slowed.

All the big smartphone players except Apple are expected to show off their upcoming handsets at Mobile World Congress in Spain, but if Digitimes is correct, then we’ll have to wait until the second quarter before we can buy them.

Apple’s fourth quarter showing was particularly impressive, garnering 23.9% of the market share. Samsung took second place with 23.5%. Behind the big two, Nokia made up the top three with 12.6%…
Digitimes’ sources believe that Apple will see a decline in iPhone 4S sales towards the second quarter, giving HTC and co the go-ahead to start their release schedules.
“Based on previous experience, sales of iPhone 4S will remain at peak in the first quarter of 2012 and then begin to decline.”
With Mobile World Congress kicking off on February 27th the industry is expecting Samsung to announce its Galaxy S III handset, which is sure to sell in huge numbers and is seen as the iPhone’s biggest competitor in the Android space.

We’re not sure that the likes of Samsung would actually delay a smartphone release because of competition from the iPhone 4S, but the company’s curious lack of any announcement regarding the Galaxy S III so far does strike many Android watchers as odd.

Maybe Samsung could sue Apple for unfair competition, too.

Zeppelin: Add Custom Carrier Logos to Your Status Bar

I’ve never been a huge fan of carriers advertising themselves by means of the carrier logo in my iPhone’s status bar. For that reason I usually remove them with a tweak like CleanStatus or Springtomize 2.

But Zeppelin — a new jailbreak tweak that just appeared on Cydia — has me considering carrier logos again…

Zeppelin allows you to add any of the following carrier logos to your iPhone’s status bar:
  • Android
  • Aperture Science
  • Assassin’s Creed
  • Batman
  • Beats by dre
  • Blue Cloud
  • Infiniti
  • Pac-Man
  • Space Invaders
  • Superman
  • Triforce
All of the logos are high quality and accurate representations. Once you select your logo, simply respring to apply the change to your status bar.

Personally I’m not a big proponent of carrier logos, custom or otherwise, but Zeppelin make it so easy and it looks so good. Better yet, it’s free of charge for jailbreakers on Cydia.

Upcoming Jailbreak Tweak Promises Deep Siri Customization

If you’re looking to customize Siri on your jailbroken iDevice, then there are already a few options available on Cydia.

AssistantExtensions, and SiriToggles are perhaps two of the best examples of Siri customization on a jailbroken device, but there’s one in the works that’s looking like a winner as well.

Indeed, MySiri — an upcoming Siri tweak — promises to add a ridiculous amount of end-user control to the Siri interface.

MySiri includes the ability to execute Activator actions using your voice, create your own conversations, enable or disable toggles, perform commands like respring, restart, reboot, and create your own custom background.

The nice thing about MySiri is that virtually every aspect is customizable in a sense that you can create your own predefined voice commands.

Of course the tweak is still in development, and I wasn’t personally able to have success with all facets. The good news is that by the time it is released, all aspects should be working seamlessly.
If your iPhone 4S is jailbroken, or you’re running Spire on your pre-4S device, then MySiri should definitely be on your radar. It’ll be available for $0.99 on the BigBoss repo once released.

How to Customize Your ‘Slide to Unlock’ Knob

ColoredKnob is a perfect example of the adage that simplicity = generally awesome. Placing a colored slide to unlock nub on an otherwise overcast iOS lock screen looks incredible, as you’ll no doubt agree from our photos and video.

As most of you know, I pride myself in maintaining the stock iOS water droplets wallpaper, which isn’t the most interesting piece of work on the block, in fact it’s quite snore-worthy.
That’s why I like this tweak so much; add it to the stock wallpaper, and bam, it’s a whole new work of art.
Don’t believe me?

ColoredKnob contains 3 basic customization options: Green, red, and grey. Considering that grey is the default knob color, there are really just two custom options. It’s a shame that the color options are so limited, but hopefully the developer is saving more color options, or perhaps RGB sliders, for a future update.

If you’re interested and running a jailbroken version of iOS 5.x, head over the BigBoss repo where you can download ColoredKnob for free.
